Digital T1/PRI Phone Lines

Digital phone lines, I.E. a T1 or PRI, offer many benefits over traditional analog phone lines. While retaining similar reliability, digital phone lines allow you to assign any number of telephone numbers to your active lines or channels. For example, if you have 23 channels and a single telephone number or DID, you can receive up to 23 simultaneous calls on the same DID. Conversely, you could have 50 DIDs, with only 10 channels allowing you to lower your cost when compared to an analog service. Digital phone lines also allow features like Caller ID override (must be enabled by provider) which isn't available on an analog line.

To add a digital phone line:

  1. Select the type of T1/PRI card from the "Add Phone Lines" drop down list.
  2. Select the appropriate framing, signaling, and switch type subjective to your circuit.
  3. Select the number of "Active Channels".
  4. To the right of the window, under "Inbound Calls" you can enter any DIDs and set a destination for them.
  5. Click "Save".

Reverse Order: When checked, this reverses the order of the ports as configured for the card, ie. on a four port digital card, port one would be assigned to "Port 4"

Card/Port Settings

Setting Description
PCI Slot Select the PCI slot(1-4) where you physically installed this card. If this is the only card of this model in your machine, this value will not be used and can be anything. If you have multiple cards of the same type installed, this corresponds to the PCI slot number on your motherboard where this card resides.
Port Settings

Select the appropriate port to configure. Each port is configured separately. Note: The ports should be numbered next to where you plug in the T1 cable.

Framing/Coding

Your provider will support a specific framing and coding standard. Select the appropriate type or call your provider if you are unsure.

Signaling Type Select the appropriate signaling type or call your provider if you are unsure.
Active Channels

Select the number of active channels (1-24) you have. Note: This corresponds to the number of channels you purchased on the given circuit. For a full PRI you may set this to 23 or 24 and we will automatically set the D channel as channel 24.

Switch Type Select the appropriate switch type or call your provider if you are unsure.
Echo Cancel If the card has a hardware echo cancellation module, select " Hardware". If not, you can use one of three software echo cancellation algorithms (MG2, KB1, SEC2) or you can disable echo cancellation by selecting "None".
Trunk Group This port will be assigned to the selected "Trunk Group" for outbound dialing.
Default Provider Check this box to define this port as the "Default Provider" for outbound dialing.

Advanced Options

Some cards may require additional options to be entered in the input field that shows up when you click the "Advanced Options" check-box. Outbound number translations will also appear after clicking this check-box.

Outbound Number Translation

The outbound number translations provide a method to change the number as dialed to match requirements met by your provider. You can prepend or remove digits from a dialed number before it is handed to the provider. For instance your provider may require a 1 even if you are doing a 10 digit number. Numbers will show up after the provider has been referenced in the outbound dialmap. Below are a few examples of how to modify the dialed number:

  • Striping the first digit from the beginning of the dialed number: ${DIALED:1}
  • Adding a 1 to the number dialed: 1${DIALED}
  • Adding the area code 949 to the dialed number: 949${DIALED}<br>
